2026
7th National Youth Beekeeper Summit
YFAI held its 2026 World Bee Day celebration and seventh National Youth Beekeeper Summit on May 20th–22nd, 2026. The first day was hosted at the University of Abuja, where more than 100 students were trained in modern beekeeping and honey production for food security and wealth creation.
Government & Media Engagement
YFAI continues to strengthen relationships with government, media and development stakeholders while advocating for apiculture as a pathway to food security, environmental conservation, youth employment and wealth creation.
2025
6th National Youth Beekeeper Summit & World Bee Day
YFAI collaborated with the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development to raise public awareness on the important role of bees to humanity through a road show and World Bee Day activities.
2024
5th National Youth Beekeeper Summit & World Bee Day
Held in collaboration with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, the 2024 World Bee Day celebration and fifth National Youth Beekeeper Summit focused on the theme: “Bee Engaged with Youths – Celebrating the Diversity of Honeybees for Food Security, Biodiversity Conservation and Livelihood Improvement.” The event was held at the NEPC Hall in Maitama, Abuja.
2023
4th National Youth Beekeeper Summit
YFAI hosted its fourth National Youth Beekeeper Summit and World Bee Day celebration at the University of Abuja, continuing its commitment to youth training, networking and apiculture development.
Higher Institution Beekeeping Club
YFAI supported the induction of 25 University of Abuja students into beekeeping, providing gloves, a bee suit and four Kenya Top Bar hives to support practical learning.
Nigeria Honey Repository Handover
The Nigeria Honey Repository project was officially handed over to RMRDC with the intention of expanding the initiative beyond honey to include additional hive products and historical beekeeping data.
2022
3rd National Youth Beekeeper Summit
YFAI celebrated World Bee Day and hosted its third National Youth Beekeeper Summit in collaboration with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council.
RMRDC Collaboration
YFAI worked with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council on the development of bee-product value chains, research, capacity building and the Nigeria Honey Repository.
YFAI Women Innovation Hub
YFAI established a Women Innovation Hub to increase female participation in apiculture. One outcome was the development of the African Bee Suit using locally available materials, with more than 30 suits sold by the team.
Strengthening Nigeria's Apiculture Ecosystem
YFAI continued strategic engagements with government and industry institutions, including FMARD, NAP, FEBKAN and NEPC, to strengthen youth participation, training, policy, research, market access and national coordination within the apiculture sector.
2021
2nd National Youth Beekeeper Summit
In collaboration with T.R.E.E, YFAI organised the 2021 Nigerian Youth Beekeepers Summit in Abuja under the theme “Exploring the Potentials of Apiculture in Nigeria.” The event recorded 236 physical participants alongside online viewers from across the globe.
Nigeria Honey Repository
YFAI and its partners established a Nigeria Honey Repository initiative, collecting 15 honey samples from six states: Oyo, Enugu, Sokoto, Jigawa, Edo and Osun.
Partnerships, Policy & Business Development
YFAI expanded collaboration with Heinrich Böll Foundation, Sterling Bank, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nigeria Apiculture Platform and other sector stakeholders. These engagements supported business model development, sector advocacy, training and the advancement of Nigeria's participation in the international apiculture community.
2020
1st Nigerian Youth Beekeepers Summit — Virtual
YFAI hosted the first Nigerian Youth Beekeepers Summit virtually during the COVID-19 lockdown, bringing together participants from different countries.
Bi-Monthly Virtual Api-Discussion
YFAI used its digital platforms to deliver regular training, knowledge sharing and marketing discussions throughout the pandemic. The initiative engaged more than 10,000 participants.
Apimondia Africa Regional Commission
YFAI's President was appointed to participate in the Apimondia Africa Regional Working Group and Honey and Hive Products Value Addition Strategic Development Committee.
Africa's Green NGO of the Year
YFAI was recognised as Africa's Green NGO of the Year at the Africa Green Waste & Energy Expo Conference in Harare, Zimbabwe, reinforcing its commitment to environmentally sustainable apiculture.
2019
Beekeeping Training & Tour
YFAI began a nationwide training tour in partnership with organisations including Multi-Sweet China, FUTA and Kano Wildlife and Zoo. More than 500 participants received training and certificates, with practical field sessions included.
World Bee Day & 1st National Youth Beekeeper Summit
YFAI partnered with the Southwest Beekeepers' Forum to organise a national summit at Obafemi Awolowo University, attended by more than 200 participants. Awareness was also taken to primary schools and through radio programming.
2019 Apimondia Congress — Canada
YFAI was recognised by the Apimondia African Regional Commission as a pioneer youth organisation in African apiculture and participated in the African Round Table session in Montreal, presenting its vision for wealth creation, employment and food security.
YouthConnekt Africa Summit — Rwanda
YFAI was invited to the 3rd YouthConnekt Africa Summit in Rwanda, bringing together more than 5,000 young delegates. YFAI contributed to the agriculture discussions and advocated for stronger apiculture policies and institutions.
2019 World Food Day
YFAI exhibited hive products and equipment during the World Food Day celebration organised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and participated in youth agriculture forums.
International Investment & Market Linkages
YFAI engaged GeoHoney Group in Dubai to explore investment opportunities and international market access for Nigerian and African apiculture products.
2018
YFAI Establishment
Formation of the YFAI team and establishment at ApiExpo, hosted by the Government of Nigeria under the Ministry of Agriculture. The event also featured the first national conference that brought African apiculture stakeholders together at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
2nd Apimondia Symposium — Addis Ababa
YFAI participated in the 2nd Apimondia Symposium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with two representatives and presented the position paper, “Integration of Youth in Apiculture for Food Security and Wealth Creation.” The presentation introduced YFAI's vision, mission and objectives to the international apiculture community and created opportunities for collaboration across Africa and beyond.
AU Youth Declaration 2018
YFAI played a critical role in the African Union Youth Against Corruption declaration held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in December 2018. The forum brought together more than 100 young people from African countries and promoted stronger bilateral relationships and youth participation across the continent.
